EH Scott Radio Enthusiasts

The Fine Things are Always Hand Made

I have heard that someone in the past offered new Scott replacement grill cloth but it is no long available. My sets used basically 2 types: either the musical notes cloth or the more common to me 'Aztec Indian' motif (as I call it)

Are there any sources that are making or could make some more of this cloth and what is the minimum required if so ??

Thanks

Bruce

I am working with a fellow here in my home town on the cloth. I told him the concept of some of the designs we were looking for and he is checking into some of them... What he is attempting to do is find a company who would be reasonable
enough to run certain designs as we all know first time set up can be a slap in the face.
But I told him if he could pull this off for us, we would consider him a true man of the cloth. ;-{~
Some 10 or 12 years ago, John Okolowicz in PA made a very good repo version of the "M" cloth used by Scott from about 1934 to 1938. But that cloth is long gone and out of production. His second batch was not as true in color, on account of difficulty finding yarn in the proper composition, weight and color as I recall him explaining to me. I don't know if John still has information on the pattern, but his web site is www.grillecloth.com.
John at Grill cloth .com has let me know he will be reproducing the EH Scott grill cloth soon and will send me a sample.

FYI to all needing some. Hopefully good news, depending on the results.

Folks -

John's site now lists EH Scott grille cloth...see http://www.grillecloth.com/index.html for more info. Look for cloth #20. I have ordered some, when it arrives i will report on it.

I have received some of the new cloth. The color and luster is very good but the new cloth appears a slight bit darker than good original cloth. There is no blue or pink hue. Unlike the original and early version of reproduction cloth, the new run is heavier and the pattern on the front is not evident in any form on the back. The new cloth will not be as accoustically transparent as the original or early version of reproduction cloth but I don't think the difference will be noticable.

Radiodaze.com had it. But it was so dark!!!
Having received it I was very disappointed.
Hope new supplier will send more close to original color.
But it's still on it's way to me.

Where did you receive from ?
RadioDaze or GrilleCloth ?

Regards,
Mike
The replacement cloth for mine was an exact match to one used on some old Zenith sets; I got replacement cloth through a Zenith enthusiasts group. Unfortunately I've lost the URL for them. I had found them through this forum:
