Scott 16 parts advice

Merry Christmas everyone!

I am a new member here, and I thought that I would start a new discussion regarding the Sixteen I recently purchased, rather than try to horn in on someone else's post. I am looking for guidance from experienced Scott owners/restorers.

I bought a 16, in the Acousticraft cabinet, for $160. The tuner chassis and power supply are in pretty good shape; only minor pitting. But it isn't complete. I believe that it was used as a parts set, by a collector I used to know (long story). I am missing:

-speaker

-dial pointer

-dial plastic cover

-tuning eye escutcheon

-large tuning knob

-pinch(?) knobs

-correct style tube shield caps

Member David Poland has graciously offered to sell me a reproduction large tuning knob, and I am now aware that the dial pointer and eye escutcheon were used by other radio brands.

But would I be better off buying a complete chassis, or even a complete radio with a poor cabinet, to get the parts I require to restore this set? I see a couple different ones on eBay right now. How much is too much money to pay for certain parts?

Of all your list items, the larger dial pointer may be the most difficult to find. 

A parts set when you see one may be beneficial.

Thought you had tube shields.

I do have tube shields, but from looking at pictures from other sets, I think the caps are wrong. They fit, and are chrome...but not of the same style as other sets. Maybe from a later chassis?

There were two types of tube shield caps used on the Scott Sixteen.  One with several small holes in a circle like the caps used on other models and the other with a single larger hole in the center like those in your photo.

As Norman noted, you do have the right tube shields. And as Dave noted, the dial pointer will be most difficult to locate. I <may> have a speaker to spare, I'll have to look. Even if I do, it will undoubtedly need to be re-coned. The plastic dial cover is available in reproduction, there are other threads here with info on that. Finally, all the information you would need is found in the Scott Info Archive link above.

If the speaker is the 12" cast basket model, there are cones that will fit on ebay, type in the search window

"134905A", these are the nearest fit, and are the ones I have used in the past.

The speaker for the Scott Sixteen has a stamped basket but even the cast basket 12-inch speakers employed by Scott were of two depths.  It is best to measure the depth needed prior to ordering.

I totally agree on this, as there seem to be so many variations with these speakers,

the seller on ebay does have quite a selection of cones, so is possibly a good place to start.

hopefully one can easily be found.

Yes, I would be very interested in purchasing a speaker, even if it needs to be re-coned. I have the materials here to re-cone it, as I bought up hundreds of cones, voice coils, and supplies from a fellow collector's estate a few years ago. I have been experimenting on smaller speakers. 

I found a dial pointer in my parts, that is the exact same style, and it fits well. But, the arms are too short. I now know that the pointers were used by other manufacturers, so I'll keep an eye open.

It is parts like the pointers, escutcheons and a few other rare yet visible items that I would love to see 3D printed. Someday I hope to experiment with the technology, no time right now.
