The Fine Things are Always Hand Made
I found this reference in a 1928 sales booklet. I would like to find the piece described. Next best - a good scan of one if you have it:

Scott Radio Friends,
I need some help. I am finishing a restoration of a Scott Warrington cabinet. Everything is place except one thing.
I need a working on/off ac toggle switch.
Here's the catch. While the exit bore hole is .5 inches in width... the depth is also just over .5 inches wide. It is .75" thick wood...
The larger initial hole is 1.5 inches and @.2 deep. This means I need switch with a stem around .75 inches to make sure the toggle clears through the hole…

The title says it all...does anyone recognize this as a McMurdo Silver cabinet? I'm guessing it is not, obviously the mounting is all wrong. Opinions?…

To members: I came across this February 1935 issue of Broadcast News online. It has a fascinating discussion on High Fidelity broadcasting, which was in its infancy, and the challenges at hand. The story has a relevance to E.H. Scott Radio Laboratories because Murray Clay came from RCA as and electrical engineer in their radio licensing division just before this article was written. As many of you know Clay was instrumental in helping Scott develop their High Fidelity receivers based on…

OK folks...question: Here is the schematic of the outboard volume expander for an AW23. I was working on one earlier today and noticed a mod that I had not seen before. If this mod isn't factory, it was done a <long> time ago - near its original production. The mod is simple - a 20ufd/25VDC cap is wired from the 6A7 cathodes to ground (+ side on the cathode). It is soldered right on the wiper of the balance potentiometer. Any thoughts on what this might do? Should I remove it/leave it…

The pot metal cast parts that support tuning capacitors are cracked in my unit. I wonder what can be done to fix it. Has anyone tried 3-D printing or is there another way? Thanks, Jiri

If anyone can look at the underside of a red-band Philharmonic Deluxe, I need to know where the switches and the variable capacitors should be at each end of the rotation. After recapping, I realized this set has been played with and I do not believe the shaft is properly aligned with the control. Any assistance would be appreciated!
BTW - this is not the same as a pointer dial set - the Deluxe has an extra wafer switch on the shaft - so hopefully someone has another Deluxe…

Hey, all. I happened to be on Facebook messenger and saw what looks to me to be a Philharmonic cabinet for sale at a used furniture store in Little Rock, AK. It's too far away from me in Denton, TX to go get, but someone might be interested. Looks like a good buy @ $50:…

I've been restoring the early (5 knob) AW23 that was found on a trash pile in Columbus. This was the lightning strike set I wrote about in a different post a couple weeks ago.
This is a VERY early AW23, there are several unique things about this set:
First, the grid lead to the mixer (6A7)...in most sets, the lead comes out through the large tuning cap cover and feeds through a hole in a phenolic piece riveted to the 6B7 shield base. On this set, there is a…

I re-acquired this wonderful Scott Philly AM/FM BOL in a nice huge 1932 circa 1st year Capehart 300 cabinet. I had sold this radio a few years ago to a big dog private collector over in Davenport Iowa. The history of this set goes back to Norman finding this in a habitat for humanity shop in the Denver area. The shop had asked Norman for an approximate value for them to sell it at. After Norman posted about it here on this forum I ended up buying it and had it shipped via craters and…

I just checked the caps removed from J497. There are Potter, Sprague and Aerovox. Not sure how many are original, but those are what I found. Kent gave me an approximate build date several years ago.
